# How many days does a public tender give suppliers to respond?

Fewer than most assume. In the Portuguese notices measured for January to July 2026, the median window between publication and the closing of bids is 14 days, counted on 19,164 notices. 36.0% give ten days or fewer, 30.9% give 11 to 20, 25.4% give 21 to 30 and only 7.7% give more than 30. The practical consequence is the case for daily monitoring: a supplier who finds a median notice a week after it opens has spent half the window, and in the third that give ten days or fewer has three days or less left. Legal minimums are a different question and vary by procedure and country; this is what buyers actually set.
