# Do SMEs win public contracts in Portugal?

Yes, most of them by count: small and medium-sized enterprises won 88.5% of the 171,806 public contracts Portugal reported to Portal BASE from January to August 2026, and 67.7% of their value, in TRINTA's count of the national register. The two figures together say what neither says alone: access to the market is not the barrier, the scale of the largest contracts is. The hundred largest suppliers took 42.8% of the value between them.
