# Direct award

A direct award is a public contract given to a supplier without a competitive procedure. It is lawful only in narrow cases, typically below a low value threshold, in genuine urgency, or where a single supplier can technically perform the work. Direct awards are published after the fact and are a common ground for challenge when the justification is thin.
